Book Drive for the Aboriginal Literacy Foundation

Book Drive for the Aboriginal Literacy Foundation

Hello, we’re Sam, Philip and Nicky and we’re from 1st Ashburton Cub scouts, Boorondara District, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. We love books and did you know that some people don't have any, so last year we ran a book drive to help fix that.
We asked everyone at school to donate one book. We collected 548 books to give to the Aboriginal Literacy Foundation. We filled 12 boxes! The Aboriginal Literacy Foundation gives books to aboriginal kids who don’t have books to read. We delivered the books to the Aboriginal Literacy Foundation in Ballarat (Australia) on Sunday 3rd March 2018. We are really happy that people who didn’t have books might have some now. It felt nice giving books to people, but we were tired after dropping them off because they were heavy. ABORIGINAL LITERACY FOUNDATION http://www.aboriginalliteracyfoundation.org/ The Aboriginal Literacy Foundation (ALF) believes that positive and practical change to closing the gap between Indigenous and non-Indigenous young people starts with literacy and numeracy. The ALF vision is for a future where all Indigenous children can pursue quality education, reach their full potential and contribute to their community and the country. The primary beneficiaries of the ALF programs are Indigenous children aged between 8 and 16 years.  They are identified by their school or community as some of the most disadvantaged Indigenous students experiencing major learning difficulties. - Published on Scout.org with permission of 1st Ashburton Cub Scouts
