ASSESSING FOOD FOR LIFE PROJECT UGANDA

During a scout training camp in march 2019, scout units in jinja were sensitised on the #SDGs and how each scout needs to play a role to achieve the goals. since scout units in Uganda are dominant in schools, the scouts agreed to do smart agriculture which involved setting up sack gardens, backyard gardens, hanging gardens when they get back to school. As the district scout leaders went around to asses the project in the individual schools(scout units) they were amazed at the progress the scouts had made, notably some had already projects standing for example *Holy cross Lakeview* had a banana plantation and sells over 40 bunches to the school canteen each term. *Mpumudde Seed school* has two cows on zero grazing where scouts work at intervals. scout units in the district were tasked to grow leafy vegetables in sacks as a way of answering goal 1, goal 2 , goal 3. we visited 10 scout units each had averagely 40members taking part in the project. each individual represents a homestead in this case. These projects have improved the learning ability in practical agriculture, contributing to quality education, scouts are harvesting and feeding on leafy vegetables a source vitamins promoting good healthy and well-being through a balanced deity, scouts units are making money from the sale of vegetables and the banana reducing the poverty line The project now moves to the scout leaders . our next visit.
