Aid Biodiversity by Building Owl Habitats

I am a springbok scout who lives in Pinelands, a suburb with many trees and green belts where owls already live, but their natural habitats are being threatened. After researching owl breeding in the area, I decided to build owl boxes to encourage more breeding and provide a natural way to control rats without poison. As a Scout, I wanted to help improve the biodiversity of my community through a long-term conservation project.
I researched the owls in our area, suitable owl box designs, materials, and eco-friendly sealants. I designed an owl box for the Spotted Eagle Owl and collected pine off-cuts from a sawmill. Seven Scouts helped build, sand, and seal the boxes at the Scout hall. We then found suitable trees in Pinelands and marked the locations on a map. After discussing the project with our ratepayers association, we received approval to place the owl boxes in the chosen trees.
I've learnt about the importance of owls and how that play a very important part in our ecosystem. How important it is to go poison free and rather let nature keep the balance. Once you have a project relating to biodiversity many people are willing to support and help you. Do lots of research so you can come up with a good owl box design.
