As part of our community project, we constructed a glass house from recycled plastic bottles, we made a wormery, we did a litter pick - up and we made a Viking - themed float, taking part in two St Patricks Day parades. BUG HOTEL: location: Inniskeen Materials Used: Pipes, straw, wood, timber, bricks, stones Purpose: To attract bugs and insects to the area. GREEN HOUSE: Location: Inniskeen Materials Used: Bamboo Sticks, plastic bottles, timber. Purpose: An environmentally friendly way of creating a glass house in order to grow plants. We used 1,400 plastic bottles to create our glasshouse. It was made in 7 sections. We cut the bottoms off the plastic bottles so they would slide onto the bamboo sticks. We nailed the bamboo onto the frame. When this was done, we took the sections to Inniskeen National school and assembled it. VIKING SHIP FLOAT: To mark a thousand years since the battle of Clontarf, we decided to make a Viking - themed float for the local St. Patricks Day parades in Inniskeen and Carrickmacross. the cubs made papier - mache helmets. The Beavers made helmets using plastic soldier helmets that we sprayed sliver and gold and stuck paper horns on. Everyone dressed up as vikings. We converted a trailer into a longboat using wood and a stripy sail. We won a prize for best float in the Inniskeen parade. LITTER COLLECTION: We helped out the local Tidy Towns Committee by carrying out a litter pick - up along a three mile stretch of roadway. we all had to wear our hi - vis jackets for safety. It rained cats and dogs, but we didn't mind.
