Environmental Scouts visited the Waste Bank

On Saturday, March 2, 2024, the Environmental Scouts of Pontianak visited the Palm Asri Waste Bank. The activity commenced at 08:00 and was attended by 10 Pontianak environmental scouts. It began with an introduction by the Palm Asri Waste Bank management. Following the introduction, we were briefed on the background of the establishment of the Palm Asri Waste Bank and the types of waste that can be sold or recycled at the Palm Asri Waste Bank to produce economically valuable items. The Waste Bank system is not much different from conventional banks, except that Waste Bank customers wishing to save must bring waste to be exchanged for money according to its waste category, which is then recorded in the waste bank account book. Almost all types of waste can be accepted here, from organic to inorganic waste. Each type of inorganic waste has categories that affect its value differently; for example, white paper and colored paper waste have different prices. Similarly, whole plastic bottles, when separated and sorted, will affect their value. The collected inorganic wastes will be sold back to the Main Waste Bank. However, it is not uncommon for these wastes to be recycled into attractive crafts, thus generating economic value. As for organic waste, it's a bit different. At Palm Asri Waste Bank, customers bringing organic waste can exchange it for compost resulting from organic waste processing. After receiving the explanation, we were shown the place where organic waste is processed into compost. The processing takes two weeks from wet waste to compost. The activity ended with thanks from Palm Asri Waste Bank
