Purpose statement

Learning Objectives

•    Encourage self-reflection and introspection to identify personal values and aspirations.
•    Foster communication and connection within families by sharing individual purpose statements.
•    Promote self-awareness and clarity of personal goals and aspirations.

Instructions

-    Begin by inviting each participant to reflect individually on their personal values, beliefs, and aspirations. Encourage them to consider what truly matters to them and what they hope to achieve in life.
-    Provide each participant with a blank canvas or sheet of paper and art supplies such as paints, markers, or coloured pencils.
-    Instruct them to create a personal purpose statement that encapsulates their values, aspirations, and vision for their life. This statement can be written in words, depicted through images, or a combination of both.
-    Encourage creativity and self-expression as they develop their purpose statement, emphasizing the importance of authenticity and sincerity.
-    Once everyone has completed their personal purpose statement, gather as a group to share and discuss them. Take turns explaining the meaning behind each statement and what inspired their creation.
-    Use this opportunity to celebrate each unique values and aspirations, fostering a sense of mutual understanding and support.
-    Since this activity is design for all ages, make sure that for younger participants (7-10) you are intentional on how you explain the activity. Ask them about what is important for them, what makes them happy, etc.

Debrief

-    Reflect on the experience of creating personal purpose statements and the insights gained into each other's values and aspirations.
-    Discuss how having a personal purpose statement can guide decision-making and provide direction in life.
-    Encourage each participant to support and encourage one another in pursuing their personal goals and aspirations.

Materials

-    Blank canvas or sheet of paper for each participant 
-    Art supplies such as paints, markers, coloured pencils, etc.
