Instructions
- Set up a creative craft station with various materials such as coloured paper, glue, scissors, beads, yarn, etc.
- Introduce the concept of engagement and "flow" to the children, explaining how engaging in creative activities can bring a sense of absorption and satisfaction.
- Encourage everyone to choose materials and begin crafting freely, without specific instructions or guidelines.
- Provide guidance and support as needed, but allow them to take the lead in their creative process.
- Create a relaxed and supportive atmosphere where everyone feels comfortable experimenting and expressing themselves.
- Allow ample time for them to immerse themselves in their craft projects, experiencing a sense of absorption and enjoyment.
- Since this activity is for all ages, make sure that the older participant gets the more complex projects or materials they have access too. Be careful with sharp objects when working with younger participants.
Debrief
- Gather everyone together after the craft workshop.
- Discuss their experiences with engaging in creative activities and finding "flow" in their crafting.
- Guide the conversation towards the concept of engagement and satisfaction by asking questions such as:
- How did you feel while you were crafting?
- Did you lose track of time while you were focused on your project?
- What was your favourite part of the crafting experience?
- Encourage everyone to reflect on their sense of accomplishment and the satisfaction they derived from their creative endeavours.
- Use the opportunity to reinforce the importance of finding activities that bring joy and engagement, and encourage children to continue exploring their creative interests.
Materials
- Assorted crafting materials (coloured paper, glue, scissors, beads, yarn, etc.). Adapt this according to the age group.
- Workstation or table for crafting.
