Acts of kidness
Learning Objectives
• Explore the connection between kindness and positive emotions.
• Foster empathy and compassion towards others.
Instructions
- Introduce the concept of kindness and its impact on others' well-being.
- Challenge everyone to perform one act of kindness each day for a week (e.g., sharing toys, helping a friend, complimenting someone).
- Provide a space for children to share their acts of kindness and celebrate each other's efforts.
- Since this activity is for all ages, make sure to give example of kindness act that are appropriate for their age. Ex. For older Scouts, perhaps help some cross the street, help their parents on house chores, etc.
Debrief
- Gather all scouts together after a week of performing acts of kindness.
- Begin by asking everyone to share one act of kindness they did during the challenge.
- Guide the conversation towards the impact of kindness on both the giver and the receiver by asking questions such as:
- How did it feel to do something kind for someone else?
- Did you notice any changes in how you felt when you were kind to others?
- Can you think of a time when someone else's kindness made you feel happy or grateful?
- Use the opportunity to reinforce the importance of kindness in building positive relationships and creating a supportive community.
