Yomelela PS: Lighting the Path to Literacy

This project was inspired by the joy of seeing learners experience “lightbulb moments” as they understood new concepts or read confidently. The Yeboneers wanted to strengthen literacy skills and help learners believe in their own abilities.
Learners engaged in reading, comprehension and library-based activities. With access to the school library, Yeboneers guided learners through each task, supporting their understanding and encouraging them to participate meaningfully. The environment created consistency and excitement around reading.
Yeboneers learnt that with patience and encouragement, nothing is impossible. They saw how access to the library renewed interest in reading and brought energy back into the space. The experience reinforced the value of creating supportive environments where learners feel motivated and capable.
