Yellowwood PS reading is our power
The Scouting-in-Schools team wanted to broaden literacy knowledge and give learners the opportunity to reach their full potential. The project aimed to provide structured, engaging experiences that support reading, comprehension, and personal growth, while demonstrating the joy and value of exploring books and literature.
Learners practiced reading, wrote and shared stories, and used dictionaries and library skills. Yeboneers guided each learner, helping overcome challenges like library access, and encouraged participation through creative activities that enhanced reading, writing, and comprehension.
Scouts observed that access to resources and one-on-one support makes a significant difference. Library card logistics were a challenge, but learners responded positively to guidance. Scouts learned patience, adaptability, and the importance of fostering literacy through structured, engaging, and supportive interventions.
