Volunteering Service at Jota-Joti 2024

The JotaJoti Scout project was inspired by the desire to connect Scouts worldwide using technology. Here’s what inspired its beginning: To help Scouts meet and learn from each other across borders. To use amateur radio (JOTA, started in 1957) and later the internet (JOTI, added in 1997) for communication.

Scouts register through the official Jota-Joti platform and plan activities in advance, like radio sessions, internet chats, cultural exchanges, and community projects. Using amateur (ham) radios, Scouts connect with others worldwide, guided by licensed operators. Scouts use safe online platforms (like ScoutLink or moderated Zoom sessions) to chat, share stories, play games, and learn about global Scouting.

Communication builds bridges—Scouts from different cultures can connect deeply even without meeting physically. Learning to use radio, internet platforms, and digital tools boosts confidence and problem-solving. Leading sessions or helping younger Scouts builds leadership, communication, and mentoring skills. These experiences often inspire volunteers to stay active in Scouting and beyond.
