TANZANIA SCOUTS ENHANCING REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH

This project was inspired by the challenges young Scouts face in accessing accurate sexual and reproductive health information. We saw a lack of safe spaces for open discussion, leading to stigma and misinformation. As Scouts, we wanted to empower our peers with the knowledge and confidence to make informed decisions and support others in their communities.
We selected 50 active Scouts from Dar es Salaam, and trained them over three days on key sexual and reproductive health topics. After the training, they were equipped with toolkits and supported to lead awareness activities in their schools, Scout groups, and communities. We provided ongoing mentorship and monitored their activities to ensure the knowledge was being effectively shared and implemented at schools, Scout meetings, and within families.
Through this project, we learned that young people are eager to learn about reproductive health when given a safe and supportive environment. Peer-led education proved to be highly effective, as Scouts felt more comfortable engaging with fellow youth. We also realized the importance of continuous support and follow-up to ensure the knowledge is applied and shared in their communities. Collaboration with health professionals and schools added great value to the impact of our efforts.
