Scouts Speak Up
Growing up in the Scout movement, I saw how Scouts naturally become trusted voices in their communities. I was inspired by the idea that this influence could be used not just for service projects, but also to challenge gender stereotypes and promote equal opportunities. Seeing both the potential and the responsibility, I wanted to turn Scouts into a living “media network” for gender equality — spreading positive messages, inspiring girls to lead, and encouraging boys to be allies.
We trained Scouts on SDG 5, created awareness materials, and organized community events, school visits, and online campaigns. Scouts used street plays, workshops, and peer discussions to promote gender equality and inspire inclusive leadership.
we learned that youth-led initiatives can powerfully influence community attitudes, but consistent engagement and culturally sensitive messaging are key. Collaboration between boys and girls in Scouts not only promotes equality but also strengthens teamwork and leadership skills.
