Nkazimlo PS, Growing Confidence With Storytelling

The project aimed to help Grade 5 learners strengthen reading comprehension in a fun, supportive way. By creating space to read, summarise, and share stories, the team wanted to build confidence and improve understanding for learners who often struggle with literacy.

Learners read stories, practised summarising, and shared their interpretations aloud. Some initially struggled to express ideas in their own words, but supportive guidance helped them improve. As confidence grew, even quiet learners began participating actively.

The team discovered that giving learners ownership of storytelling boosts comprehension and confidence. Patience, consistent support, and a safe learning environment helped learners at different levels engage meaningfully. Storytelling and summarising proved powerful tools for strengthening literacy skills.
