Leading with Service: Volunteer at Thimphu Tshechu
My motivation to take part in the Thimphu Tshechu crowd control duty came from my passion for serving the community as a leadership-trained scout. I wanted to apply my training in real-life situations and contribute to the safety and smooth running of one of Bhutan’s most important cultural events. The opportunity to serve the public, work with fellow scouts, and promote discipline and harmony inspired me to give my best effort throughout the event.
During the Thimphu Tshechu, I served as part of the crowd control team under the guidance of scout leaders and local authorities. Our team was assigned specific zones to manage the movement of people, assist the elderly and children, and ensure safety around the festival ground. We coordinated using clear communication, teamwork, and discipline—core values of scouting. Throughout the event, we maintained order, helped prevent overcrowding
Through this project, I learned the importance of teamwork, communication, and leadership in managing large crowds effectively. I gained practical experience in staying calm under pressure and making quick, responsible decisions. The activity also strengthened my sense of discipline, patience, and service to others. Most importantly, I realized how small acts of guidance and kindness can create a safe and positive environment for the entire community.
