Isikhokelo PS, Restoring a Culture of Reading

The project aimed to strengthen learners’ ability to read aloud and speak confidently, both in prepared and unprepared situations. Yeboneers wanted to rebuild a culture of expressive reading and help learners find their voice through consistent practice.
Learners took part in guided reading, short speeches, and supportive literacy activities. Yeboneers created a patient, encouraging environment that helped learners engage fully, practise reading aloud, and build confidence through repeated participation.
Yeboneers learned the value of teamwork, patience, and steady encouragement when supporting developing readers. The experience highlighted how sustained guidance can rebuild confidence and revive a strong reading culture within a school.
