United for CleanWater: Scouts & Veterans in Action
I was inspired by the daily challenges many rural communities in Malawi face in accessing safe and clean water. Seeing how water-related illnesses and poor hygiene affect families motivated me to take action as a Scout. As Scouts, we believe in service to others, so I wanted to combine clean water support with hygiene awareness to help create healthier and more sustainable communities
Members of the Chambo Scout (Malawi scouts) Troop worked with Veterans Without Orders to support villages around Kusewera Community Center. We distributed clean water filters and shared hygiene and safe water practices. Scouts helped with logistics and community engagement, reaching households through teamwork and partnership.
Through this project, I learned the importance of teamwork, partnership, and community involvement in creating real impact. I also gained experience in coordinating activities on the ground and engaging with communities on hygiene and clean water practices. Most importantly, I learned that small actions, when done together, can lead to meaningful and lasting change.
