In August 2016 the national Akela 2016 took place in Gauteng. The participants have done 3 ECD-project at the Paradise Christian School in Olievenhoutbosch. This school started 2014 with 68 learners and has grown to 215, 12 of which are Grade R learners. The school lives with the fees which the parents have to pay, but the economic environment in this area make it hard to buying new equipment for the school. So one group of 50 delegates decided to build three food gardens for the school. Because of the donation of seedlings and soil from Andy Titterton Wholesale Nursery they had the opportunity to make 8 food gardens. As a result of this, more families will benefit from the vegetables and fruits from the garden. Although the groups had a little difficulties as an extremely hard ground or a long distance to the tap there is a result which everybody is happy about. The Director of the school says “In facts words are not enough to appreciate you. In other words you are our angels who meet us in the point of our need.” Also the group was happy with their work. Jeanettte Angus, who is responsible for this project, says “Everyone who worked on this project is gifted in different areas yet, by working together and learning from each other, we managed to overcome the obstacles provide the school with these food gardens. “
