Street-plays in view of Level Crossing week
Level crossing awareness is important in India because of the high number of fatalities at level crossings. The International Level Crossing Awareness Week (ILCAW) is a global campaign that aims to educate people about safety precautions and reduce the number of fatalities at level crossings. In India, the only safe place to cross railroad tracks is at a designated public crossing with a cross buck, flashing red lights, or a gate. Crossing at any other location is illegal
After Taking necessary permission from our district officials we members along with the officials of the Northeast frontier Railway, Tinsukia Division conducted street plays at approx 15 authorised and unauthorised level crossing gates from Dibrugarh to Margherita (82.6kms). We also talked to the people to aware them about their safety and about the laws that prohibits the crossing of a closed level crossing gate.
Through the project we learnt about the laws about the level crossing gates as we helped this knowledge to aware others about the topic. A pedestrian level crossing is essential to allow passengers to reach other side of a track easily while not risking their personal safety and also prevent accidents allowing the smooth functioning of Railway lines.
