Stanislaus National Forest Rim Fire Recovery

Stanislaus National Forest Rim Fire Recovery

The Stanislaus National Forest (Forest) and the Tuolumne River Trust have partnered to plan a state-wide recovery project in the area surrounding the Hetch Hetchy reservoir damaged during the Rim Fire. The Rim Fire ignited on August 17th, 2013, and quickly grew to become the third largest wildfire in California's history. A substantial portion of the four hundred square miles burned destroying all the natural seed source that would allow natural regeneration to occur and left the land susceptible to landslides and invasion of non-native species. With the help of the Tuolumne River Trust, the Forest has begun a decade-long operation to restore and replant the substantial acreage lost, and have enlisted the help of the Boy Scouts of America.
