REFORESTATION
REFORESTATION.......
WHY TREE?
Trees give.
Trees help alleviate the “Greenhouse Effect” and act as carbon “sinks.”
They prevent or reduce soil erosion and water pollution....THUS PREVENT FLOOD
Trees reduce water temperatures and prevent or reduce bank erosion and silt.
Trees recharge ground water and sustain stream flow.
It is often said that rain forests are the lungs of the world because plant life breaks down carbon dioxide and turns it into oxygen for you to breath.
Every tree that is planted makes a difference because not only do trees generate oxygen they also recharge groundwater which in turn keeps the water cycle moving.
Properly managed forests provide lumber, plywood and other wood products on a sustained yield basis.
Tress significantly decrease noise pollution along busy thoroughfares and intersections.
Illegal clearing of land is a big problem to the residents of Cameron Highlands.
That is why scout's as the non-governmental organisations play important role in helping to control the situation.
The two-day tree planting event, has being carried out in an effort to reforest the disturb area in the Gunung Siku Forest Reserve in Cameron Highlands.
The programme attracted some 500 participants, comprising representatives from various government departments/agencies and non-governmental organisations, local community members as well as school scouts.
The participants planted a total of 3,000 trees of five selected species, namely Gerok (Exbucklandia populnea), Podo kebal musang (Nageia wallichiaba), Rhu bukit (Gymnostoma sumatranum), Medang kemangi (Cinnamomum porrectum) and Damar minyak (Agathis borneensis), in an area covering three hectares over the two days.
