MoP for Leaders: Camp Tharros and Camp Ethos
Inspire, Learn & Do
The Anglican High Falcon Scouts and the Anglican High Girl Guides have an annual mentorship collaboration with the Red Swasitika Raptor Scouts and Brownies, particularly, Camp Tharros and Camp Ethos.
Encourage & Explore: Through this project, the Scouts and Girl Guides encouraged to learn more about the needs of the younger Cubs and Brownies and how to engage them better through their Leaders and Teachers, as well as a few sessions of interaction (Job Week mentoring for the Cubs and pre-camp ice breakers for Brownies) to understand how to communicate with them before the camp.
Engage: The teams have to plan for, and execute a camp to (1) provide a different perspective on camping and working with older senior boys and girls, and (2) provide an opportunity for the Brownies to go out for camps. During the camp, they arrange for learning - such as simple knots, outdoor cooking and craftsmanship through simple craft sessions.

Mentorship - Reflection & Facilitation: The challenge the teams face are of communication, as the younger Cubs and Brownies are more lively and may not listen to their instructions. Here, the teams learn how to vary and try out different modes of communication to ensure that the tasks that they have planned will be executed properly. At the same time, the teams have to be flexible to take into account the variability of circumstances that can force them to improvise and modify the plan on the spot but yet meet their original objectives.
At the end of the session and camp, the teams and the Leaders share their views on how they have made an impact on the Cubs and Brownies and equally importantly, what they have learnt about themselves through this experience. Thereafter, they write their individual reflections which are good avenues of discourse of their learning. Finally, they share their project with the school through a poster during the school Values-in-Action fair.
