Let's Donate a Book and Save a Soul.

My Community Service Project.

Renovation of the Library building and donation of books to the Library of G/Eramulla Primary School.

The urge of conducting a community service project firstly generated in my mind due to the Presidential Award. Moving with the idea several thoughts were rushed in to my leaving me behind with no options. So I directly talked with my Scout Master Training to help me with picking up with the correct community service project.

With more discussion the conclusion became clear to conduct the above mentioned community service project.

At first it was a very big challenge for me to get the approval from the high authourities as it was the time period which the Covid pandemic was just over. But over several phone calls and disscussions all the needed approvals were granted.

Then the next challenge for me was the selection of the proper school to execute this project. So with my scout master we made a list of schools in a certain area which matched with my required cut offs. I wanted to help for a school which had under facilitated libarary facilities to bloom the knowledge of the school children. With several thoughts we came up with school named G/Eramulla Primary school in Kahduwa,Elpitiya.

After the selction of the proper school it was to take permission from the selected school’s principal and the other authorites. And that was tirggerly done with my mother and the scout master.

Then after one month all the approvals and the required documents were taken care of.

After the big process the next step for me to collect donations from my peers. For that I made a post with the help of my senior and published it in social media for the others’ attention. Then because I got little attention via that I went to my school and informed about my project to the children in each and every classroom by pasting a short notice and to verbally also.

So after one day the response for my project increased and teachers and students gave me physical donations for my project.

After collecting donations from around one month I was satisfied and was able to collect over 440 books.

After the collection of the books next step for me was to make book covers for the books and stamping the seal I made writing the project’s name. With the help of our school’s junior girls I was able to make covers for the all the books within less than 4 hours.

That was my half of the work. After moving with the agenda my next task wast to renovate the library building. With my mother and siters’s frineds as well as with my scout troop we managed to renovate and paint the whole building and cupboards within two days. After that we went there for making room in to and order.

Next was to deliver invitations for the respectives for the opening ceremony of the Library.

And that was conductued on 23rd of September 2020 within the hands of the Principal of G/Dharmasoka College. And I was able to donate 444 children books which belong to different criterias and a small snack for all the 89 students including the staff. Required table cloths for the library also was provided to make it a finishing touch.

And this was my project in a summary so far and I make it a chance to thanks all the persons who helped me to accompolish this project.
