GROW TO NOURISH: 335 URBAN GARDEN FOR ZERO HUNGER

The project was inspired by the commitment of the Boy Scouts of the Philippines (BSP) Outfit 337 of Bautista National High School, led by Venture Scouts Ezekiel Mejia and Angela May Solis, to support SDG 2: Zero Hunger , SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production, and SDG 13: Climate Action. The goal was to create a functional garden where students could learn the value of food security and sustainable living, even with limited space.
The BSP first identified a suitable area within the school and prepared it for gardening by cleaning, removing debris, and conditioning the soil. Scouts worked together in compost mixing, plotting garden beds, and arranging an efficient layout for urban gardening. Vegetable seedlings—including eggplant, lady’s fingers, tomato, bitter gourd, and chili—were planted using organic fertilizers and sustainable methods. Students maintained the garden through regular watering, weeding, and monitoring.
Participants learned the importance of teamwork, patience, and consistency in nurturing plants. They gained practical knowledge on food production, organic gardening, and responsible environmental care. The experience also deepened their awareness of food security and the impact small actions can make in addressing hunger. #GREENRISING #SCOUTS #SCOUTSFORSDGS #BOYSCOUTSOFTHEPHILIPPINES
