Defeat Dengue: Protect, Prevent, Prevail!

A common goal inspired our team—to build a healthy and safe society—led us to initiate the dengue prevention program. We have seen that despite dengue being a preventable disease, its outbreaks threaten the lives of countless people every year. Awareness, proper measures, and effective initiatives are crucial to protect ourselves from it.

A dengue prevention program was implemented in Uttara, Dhaka, on 30 September 2024, at the initiative of the 120th Uttara High School and College Scout Group, under the leadership of Scout Leader Md. Bakhtiar Kutubi and Unit Leader Helena Akhter, leaflets on various roads and houses in Uttara, and dengue larva eradication drugs were sprayed with the help of the City Corporation. The primary objective of the program was to raise awareness of dengue among the public.

The community experienced significant benefits from the Dengue Prevention and Awareness Program. The program made residents aware of the symptoms of dengue and taught them how it spreads while providing prevention methods. Families began to use mosquito nets while they eliminated stagnant water sources and maintained clean environments. Volunteers from the local community joined forces with cleanup initiatives to eliminate mosquito breeding locations. The area improved in cleanliness and safety, which led to a drop in dengue cases.

We have learnt many important lessons through this project, and raising awareness among people is the most effective step to prevent diseases like dengue. If people get the right information, they can take preventive measures themselves. Big problems can be solved by working together with the local city corporation, residents, and us Scout members. We have learnt how fruitful teamwork can be.
