Community Church Scout Group – Building a play area
Community Church Scout Group in Bisho, Eastern Cape embarked on a project led by Lunga Nqini to help Kingdom Kids Day Care Centre.
Kingdom Kids Day Care Centre is an emerging crèche that caters for young children from 0 to six years old. The group’s aim was to revamp the day care centre play area and include other ideas such as recycling and creating toys for the children.
One of these main creative ideas was to make colourful Go carts. The group bought and used recycled materials such as metal, old wheelchair motors and other recycled wheels to make these go carts. Lunga Nqini, the project leader used his old wheelchair motor, too. In addition to the carts they built a play area with an obstacle course.
25 Scouts, including Cubs, were involved in the implementation of this project, with the help of adult volunteers and parents. They partnered with Bhisho Scholar Patrol Team and Bhisho Primary School, who gave a talk to the children about road safety when crossing the roads to school. The project benefited 40 children and the Kingdom Kids Day Care Centre staff.
