Building a new Staircase for a Old Schoolhouse
I will build and install a new staircase and handrail in the basement of the historic Hanover school house. The current staircase has 6 steps at an 8 inch rise and has 9 inch deep treads. The new staircase will have 8 steps with a 6 inch rise and 10 inch deep treads. To accomplish this I will need to remove part of a head joist to provide head room. (in compliance with current city building codes). Volunteers have begun work on the Hanover schoolhouse, and the current staircase leading down to the basement is very steep and difficult to go down or move things on. Building a new and lengthier staircase would make it easier and safer for everybody to go down.
