Building a Greener Future
Adverse environmental and social effects in Odisha, particularly around Khordha and Bhubaneswar, strongly motivated us. Industrial dust and pollutants degraded air quality, prompting green belts to filter toxins and protect residents' respiratory health. These issues highlight the urgent need for action in scouting initiatives.
Our team identified the Mangala Temple premises in a degraded condition and transformed it into a vegetated green space through targeted activities, aligning with green skills and climate resilience goals. We surveyed the temple grounds, which revealed barren soil and debris. The team then cleaned the area by removing weeds, litter, and debris. Finally, we planted flowering plants of native species and make it accessible.
Green space initiative developed essential team skills for scouts, blending environmental expertise with collaboration. These efforts enhanced communication and role delegation skills during cleanup and planting activities, fostering clear task assignments.
