AIA Coburg - A Muslim Cub Scout Pack is open
This is a celebration of the opening of a Muslim Cub Scout Pack at the Australian International Academy, Coburg, Victoria (AIA Coburg).
The new Cub Scout Pack was launched on Tuesday 23 August 2016 at AIA with 14 girls and boys from this Academy becoming Cub Scouts.
The hard work commenced in 2015 when the School Principal Ms Leyla approached Scouts Victoria to partnership in introducing Scouting into their Grade 5 program. Wanting the best for her students, Ms Leyla wanted her students to be trustworthy, honest, helpful, considerate, respectful, loyal, courageous, friendly, cheerful and caring which were the values encouraged in the Academy. But she wanted more...she wanted her students to be part of a world wide movement that shared the same values...the Scouting Movement.
Ms Leyla approached one of her staff members, Iman Habboucheh to investigate and then Iman:
Is invested as a Scout Leader to be the Group Leader AIA Coburg Scout Group,
Found more adults as Carlo Belfiore is invested as the Akela - the Cub Scout Leader,
Found more adults as assistants and helpers,
Found members to form the Group Support Committee,
Arranged parent promotion meetings and before we know it -
SUCCESS - WE HAVE 14 NEW CHUMS FOR A CUB SCOUT PACK.
Of course all the leaders commenced their training, the Academy identified an area for the Cub Scout Pack to meet and the work of programming with lots of other tasks began.
And so, on that Tuesday evening in the presence of parents, teaching staff of the Academy, the Moreland Mayor Samantha Ratnam, numerous Scouting Leaders from within Victoria and 14 NEW CHUMS, the AIA Coburg Scout Group was officially opened and 14 new chums were then INVESTED as CUB SCOUTS into the AIA Coburg Cub Scout Pack.
Of course, the opening was followed by a well earned supper for the Cub Scouts to celebrate.
