Upgrading a Creche
The Marula Crew in Limpopo gave back to their community by painting and revamping the Vaakeni crèche.
The 19 Scouts, parents and adult volunteers made the crèche into a place where the children feel comfortable and have a home for the day. Before this project the crèche was dirty, dark and almost dying. It did not look like a place where the children have fun and can learn something. The Marula Crew decided that they were going to change this situation and made plans for the crèche. They started by cleaning the crèche, afterwards they bought the painting tools and everything what was needed.
Homu Hlulani brought together Scouts, volunteers and adults. So all of them learned how to paint and how to use the equipment. After all the work was done the Crew went to the crèche and asked how they feel and what changed. Parents now have again hope and faith for the crèche. Parents can now leave there children during the day at a wonderful coloured centre whilst at work. With the high unemployment rate in the area it also allows parents to be at ease and focus on finding new jobs. The children were so happy when they saw their crèche painted.
