Scouting for Food 2018 at Spring, TX

On Janurary 27, 2018, cub scouts and family from Pack 345, Pack 1876, boy scouts from Troop 878, and 2 boys scouts from Troop 331 joined the effort to reach 4,000 homes to distribute flyers (despite the rain) about food collection to be picked up on the following week and to be delivered to our local food bank, Spring Woodlands Ministry. The cub and boy scouts walked door to door and hang those flyers on doors to notify the residence about this meningful service of Scouting. Early morning of February 3, 2018, which was cold and rained again, but never defeat the Scouting spirit of service to bring those food donation to the food bank. Total of 172 cub scouts, boy scouts, scouters, siblings, friends, parents and grandparents from these 4 units joined the effort for these 2 days of service, with total of 494 hours of serivce, by distributing flyers, food collection, and food sorting and shelving at the Spring Woodland Ministry Pantry. We managed to bring in 1,692lb of food donation. When we first get to the ministry pantry after food drop off, we could see most of the shelf being empty and we can see through those empty shelves. WIthin hours of service with continuous food donation coming from our Scouts in the district, the pantry is now filled with food with some category of food overflowing the shelf and we had to use crate and put them on the ground. This is a very blessed service that we have particiapted and can't wait to do it again sooner.
