The Life’s Little Treasures Foundation is Australia’s foremost charity dedicated to providing support, friendship and information, specifically tailored for families of children born premature or sick. The Foundation’s services are available in hospitals (neonatal and special care units) and in the community when families come home. The organiser of the 2016 "Walk for Premie Babies" a fundraising event for the Life's Little Treasures Foundation approached Sandgate Venturer Scout Unit to help raise funds for this event. They suggested that the venturer scouts could help by organising and running a sausage sizzle to provide both food and drinks to the participants undertaking the Walk for Premie Babies event. The Unit Chairperson recommended this would be a great service activity for the Venturer Scout unit to undertake, which was endorsed by other members of the unit. As Sandgate Venturer Scout Unit is only small (6 members) our sister unit within our Scout District (Aspley Venturer Unit) was invited to help with running of the event. This was supported by the members of Aspley Venturer Unit as they were actually premature babies. The Sandgate Venturer Unit Chairperson arranged all equipment, food and a timetable for the event helpers (which also include a number of supporting parents. A great day was had by, with a turnover of the day's event of $466.00. After the event a left over food was frozen and will be utilised later in the year at another sausage sizzle which will add to the fundraising monetary total.
