Recycle Plastic Bread Tags to Provide Wheelchairs
My sister and I are in Scouts and we have been motivated to do something meaningful when we were discussing about helping people in need. We found out about Aussie Bread Tags for Wheelchair and were motivated to know that a small action can cause a big impact on the lives of others.
We started the project while in isolation but with the support of our scout leaders, we were able to rally our scout group to help in collecting bread tags through zoom. When we were able to meet up for our weekly meetings, we placed a container in the scout hall so that other members were able to add on their collections.
We also informed our family and friends about our project and got everyone to save their bread tags instead of just disposing them off and ended up in landfill.
50 wheelchairs have been provided to date from this initiative by https://ozbreadtagsforwheelchairs.org.au/
5,956 kg of Aussie bread tags have been recycled to date.
We are grateful to know that our conscious effort to recycle the bread tags has in turn helped some children in Africa to access wheelchairs. Our actions are small in comparison to the benefits that the children in need received, nevertheless we made a difference.
Looking back, we could have make it even bigger by involving our school communities in this project. We aim to continue with this project by bringing the idea to our school.
