Mid Autumn Festival Service - Visit to The Elderly

Mid Autumn Festival Service - Visit to The Elderly

In 2014, there were approximately one million of elderly in Hong Kong who are aged over 65. This is 15% of the overall population and keeps rising each year. Many of them are living alone without sufficient social support or unable to reach out the community due to their unstable physical condition. Whilst the Mid-Autumn Festival is coming, our fellow scouts took pleasure in sharing love and care to our seniors of the neighborhood. On September 19, 2015, the organizer, S.K.H. Chuk Yuen Canon Martin District Elderly Community Centre invited more than 80 scouts and leaders from 260th East Kowloon Group, 90th Kowloon Group, 1212nd Kowloon Group and 1335th Kowloon group, to conduct a home visit to more 90 solitary elderly in Wang Tau Hom Estate. The scouts were divided into small teams. Each team was assigned to visit 3 to 4 numbers of solitary elderly. During the visit, the team initiated a cheerful conversation and delivered a fortune bag prepared by the organizer. The bag comprised with some rice, noodles and of course, a piece of “Moon Cake” - a symbolic food for Chinese to celebrate the festival. Although each visit could only last for 15 minutes, we believe that both the organizer and our scouts had brought some wonderful and memorable festival atmosphere to the seniors.
