Mangrove Planting Project in Balikpapan
Mangrove forests play an important role in protecting coastlines from erosion, providing habitats for wildlife, and maintaining healthy coastal ecosystems. Through this project, Junior High School Scouts aimed to raise environmental awareness and encourage young people to take part in nature conservation.
The project was carried out by 40 Junior High School Scout participants under the guidance of 7 Scout leaders at Mangrove Center Graha Indah, Balikpapan, East Kalimantan. The activity took place from 4 July to 10 July, 08:00–10:00 WITA. Before planting, participants received environmental education about the importance of mangroves and learned the correct planting techniques. Each participant was provided with a healthy mangrove seedling and basic planting equipment.
Participants planted the seedlings in muddy coastal areas by digging 20–30 cm holes, placing the seedlings upright, covering the roots with mud, and pressing the soil gently. The seedlings were then checked to ensure they were stable and ready to grow. The project benefited around 100 people through environmental education and coastal conservation. It also strengthened teamwork, responsibility, and environmental awareness while helping restore the mangrove ecosystem.
