The Mangrove Planting Project
The Mangrove Planting Project was carried out by 50 Junior High School Scout participants in West Balikpapan, East Kalimantan. The activity took place from 4 July to 10 July, 07:00 a.m. to 09:00 a.m. (WITA). Before planting, participants received environmental education about the importance of mangroves in preventing coastal erosion, protecting marine habitats, and preserving the coastal ecosystem.
Each participant was provided with healthy mangrove seedlings and basic planting equipment. Participants planted the mangrove seedlings by digging 20–30 cm holes in the muddy coastal area, placing the seedlings upright, covering the roots with mud, pressing the soil gently, and watering them if needed. After planting, the seedlings were checked to ensure they were firmly planted and able to grow properly. The project benefited around 100 people.
The Mangrove Planting Project successfully encouraged participants to care for the environment through hands-on conservation activities. It strengthened teamwork, responsibility, and environmental awareness while helping restore and protect the coastal ecosystem in West Balikpapan.
