Green Weekend: Fighting Climate Change
The motivation for the Green Weekend project is to raise awareness about environmental issues and encourage people to take action to protect the planet. The project aims to educate people about the SDGs and renewable energy through fun activities and information sessions. It also showcases the scouts' commitment to environmental stewardship and encourages others to get involved in their efforts to create a more sustainable future.
The Green Weekend project was implemented in the East of Madagascar, in the national park of Masoala Tampolo, a forest in the Analanjirofo region. With the scouts of Fenerive Est, we worked together to plan this camp. We invite local organizations and youth community members to participate. So we create impact with young leaders in the city of Fenerive Est about Scout Go Solar and sustainable development goals. During the green week end, we organize many fun activities related to sustainable development goals. First with Scout Go Solar, we learn how to make solar cooker and sunglasses. Then we play Green Game to introduce SDGs to young people. And finally, we plant trees to protect to local forest.
The project had a positive impact on the community by raising awareness about environmental issues and encouraging people to take action to protect the planet. The project may have also had a direct impact on the 37 young people who participated in the camp by providing them with knowledge and skills related to renewable energy and the SDGs.
The Green Weekend project implemented by the scouts of the Diocese of Fenerive Est in Madagascar faced financial constraints and a short preparation time, posing challenges during its implementation. It is suggested that partnerships and collaborations could provide opportunities to access additional resources and support, making future projects more sustainable and impactful.
