Fighting malnutrition in Karamoja creating jobs

The Karamoja Nutrition and Youth Empowerment Initiative was established in response to the high levels of malnutrition, food insecurity, and youth unemployment affecting communities in Karamoja. Many children, pregnant and breastfeeding mothers, and vulnerable families continue to face inadequate access to nutritious food, while many young people lack sustainable employment opportunities. Recognizing these challenges, Seph Tech and Health initiated this project to provide nutritious food
The project was implemented through a community-based approach in partnership with local leaders, health workers, volunteers, and youth groups. Activities included the distribution of nutritious porridge and food supplies to vulnerable households, nutrition screening and health education, and referrals for individuals requiring medical care. Youth were actively engaged in food production, packaging, logistics, and community outreach, creating employment opportunities while supporting the youth
The project showed that community involvement, strong partnerships, and youth empowerment are essential for reducing malnutrition and creating sustainable impact.
