Event Waste Management Intervention by Scouts

Waste problem's stake in our province has increased at least since 2 years ago, when our main landfill was claimed overcapacity and there's no comparable replacement yet. Nevertheless, we, the Scouts, aware that the real solutions is to prioritize waste reduction to landfill. After the problem analysis and framing, we got data that one big waste classification that are not widely managed is event waste management. So we, as Scouts in university, want to intervene the closest context, university's events and Scouts event.

Our project implemented at our university's event, we managed the waste form the event. Unlike the 'business-as-usual' management, we carried the concept of 'reduce waste to landfill', that ensure the classified/grouped waste sent to the right place. The recyclable waste we sent to recycle agent, and the compostable or organic waste we sent to a collective compost management.

We determine our qualitative as well as quantitative impact. The event's audience directly impacted by our message and campaign about waste issue awareness. As well as our collaborator, the event organizer, they were enlightened by a concept of responsible event waste management.

Besides that, the quantitative impact are the quantity of waste reduction to the landfill, consisting of the recyclable or inorganic waste and the compostable or organic waste.

We learned that the wide audience are literate and can be educated to care about waste placement to the right classification, which then aware of the broader issues. The next (project, specifically the next event waste management) can be our opportunity to improve our delivery.
