Eswatini Young Girls Bridging Cultural Norms on Gender Through Dialogue During the Covid-19 Pandemic

Eswatini Scouts Rolled out a Dialogue for Peace Programmes meant to empower young girls during the Covid-19 pandemic. Bridging Cultural Norms in Women and Girls Empowerment: Support over 200 scouts with skills and knowledge to curb inequalities and gender based violence in the society through the following: i. To Capacitate women and girls will leadership skills to effectively deliver scouting programme to more young women and girls ii. To raise awareness in the organization’s membership and advocate for equality amongst them as they deliver scouting education to young people iii. To reduce gender based violence in the society where scouting exists and advocate for dialogue as means of bridging gaps on cultural norms and beliefs to create a safe environment for girls and women to achieve their full potentials The Project began with Regional awareness conducted in 3 regions of the country aimed at: i. Selecting the best 10 girls in each region that will attend the National Training. ii. Introducing the young people to dialogues. iii. Giving the young people an understanding of the Dialogue for Peace Programme. Topics discussed during the campaigns were: a) Introduction of the Dialogue for peace program b) Batter World Framework c) Gender Equality d) Covid-19 and the Girl Child c) Safe from Harm d) Introduced to Dialogues e) Covid-19 and the Girl Child f) Cross cutting Gender issues (teenage pregnancy, gender roles, cultural norms, etc) g) Presentation of the Sustainable Development Goals h) Sexual Offenses and Domestic Violence Act A National Training for Dialogue Champions conducted covering the following topics: a) Potential Development b) Corporal / Physical punishment in Schools c) Child Sexual Violence d) Intimate Partner Violence e) Conducting a dialogue in your community A community outreach program was also conducted to reach out to over 200 young people in the community to engage through dialogue on issues affecting young girls particularly during the Covid-19 pandemic
