Community Engagement @ Voices: A festival of song
The Singapore Scout Association was invited by Esplanade to put up a campfire as an item in Voices: A festival of song.
Through the campfire, we managed to attract and engage the public to join us in singing along and participating in the various small games and activities peppered throughout. Both the scouts present as well as the public that were streaming through had an enjoyed a night of song and entertainment.
I believe community engagement activities such as these are especially useful considering the hustle and bustle of everyday city life. It gives the community a chance to take a breather, relax and enjoy the evening. It also encourages interaction among family members and promotes closer family bonding especially since most youths today are always on their phones and rarely speak even to their family members.
Seeing how the scouts and the community were enjoying the programme made the service very meaningful and rewarding.
