To launch our Messengers of Peace badge work the Joey Scout Mob had a family night where we all contributed International food dishes to share. This highlighted to the Joey Scouts we are a multicultural diverse Mob who are globally aware of where we are in the world and what are influences are. The initial part of our MOP project is for our Australian Joey Scout Mob to be develop, pack and send Care Packages to Australian Defence Troops (men, women and Australian Explosive Detection Dogs) who are serving all over the world. This project requires our 5 to almost 8 year old boys and girls to think about others' needs, work with their families to build care packages that meet specific requirements. The Joey Scouts will be required to think about what their needs and luxurious wants are and visually put themselves into the hot dessert and countries where our Troops are serving. The Joey Scouts and families will either collect donations or purchase items to be boxed and sent via the Australian postal system. The second part of our service project is to make creative friendship stones that would fit into the palm of similar aged children, using paint, and leaving them at local parks/playgrounds. The stones will say the words 'PEACE' and 'FRIENDS' etc. They are made with the intention, different children from our multicultural community will take them and keep them or pass them on. Spreading the word about peace and friendship, no matter who you are!
