Meerkats Helping Community Pets
HARMELIA GARDENS AIR SCOUT GROUP - MEERKAT UNIT
In February 2024 our Den began a community service project called “Recycle for Rescue” whereby we collect glass in a 240 litre bin. The purpose of the collection is to recycle the glass to aid in having homeless pets sterilized so it will be easier for adoptions to take place. The project was meant to be undertaken for a school term, but we have decided to extend the project indefinitely. The Meerkats get so excited as the glass builds up in the bin until it is full and shout out “Our bin is full AGAIN! Yaaaaaay!!!” So far, we have emptied the bin 8 times. We do plan on doing an outing to see the animals that we have helped during the course of 2025.
The charity we are collecting for is called Sterione which is a non-profit organization. You can find their Facebook page here
There are photos on their page under their albums named “Recycling”. One photo can be seen here
We are really looking forward to receiving our Messenger of Peace badges to wear proudly on our uniforms.
We had 10 Meerkats, 2 Meerkat instructors, an Assistant Den Scouter and a Den Scouter immersed in this community project. We will continue to do our best to help in this project to help the pets.
Kind regards
