Joyful Collage Creation
Learning Objectives
• Encourage self-expression and creativity by exploring personal interests and passions.
• Promote active listening and communication skills by sharing interests with others.
• Foster a sense of pride and ownership in individual preferences and hobbies.
Instructions
- Begin by gathering a variety of magazines, newspapers, and other print materials that contain images and articles related to different interests and hobbies.
- Provide each participant with a large piece of poster board or cardstock, as well as scissors, glue sticks, and markers.
- Encourage the children to think about activities, topics, or objects that bring them joy and happiness. Prompt them to consider a wide range of interests, such as sports, animals, nature, art, music, hobbies, and more.
- Invite everyone to flip through the magazines and cut out images or words that represent their interests. They can also draw or write directly on the poster board if they prefer.
- As they work on their collages, encourage them to share their interests with each other and explain why each one is meaningful to them. Foster an environment of active listening and respectful curiosity.
- Once the collages are complete, allow everyone to present their creations to the group. Encourage them to discuss their favourite hobbies and interests, and why they enjoy them.
- Display the collages in a common area where everyone can admire each other's creations and learn about their peers' interests.
Debrief
- Reflect on the activity by asking questions such as:
- What did you enjoy most about creating your collage?
- Did you discover any new interests or hobbies while working on your collage?
- How did it feel to share your interests with the group?
- Did you find any similarities or connections between your interests and those of your peers?
- How can we celebrate and support each other's interests and passions?
- Make the connection between understanding what activities and things brings us joy, what do we enjoy doing, and how can knowing these things can help us find our purpose.
