The Walkathon Library Day 2
DAY 2 - MAY 16, 2017
Morning Session 0700H to 1200H
This is the moment that our plans will turn to reality. At
exactly 07:00H, with our books and other learner’s
materials, we went to Barangay Pilarca, Tinambac,
Camarines Sur to pick up the Pedi-cab locally known as
“padyak” that we rent form the natives.
After 30 minutes of venture, on 0730H we kick off and
start wandering on the municipality of Tinambac. We,
Lexa Natalie Juntado and Kent Bryan D. Lontok start
driving the padyak going to Barangay San Pascual. While
roaming around, one of the teachers of the Tinambac
South Central School II noticed us and asks us about our
project. After explaining to them the main goal of our
project, Madam Marites Abrera invited us to their school
to talk with the teachers about our plans, and then they
offer their help to let us borrow reading books and other
teaching materials so we can have better implementation
of our project. We thank them because they open wider
parameter for our project.
Moving on, we drove to Barangay Santa Cruz until we
reach Don Servillano Platoon Memorial High School
where we saw incoming grade 7 students. Upon seeing
them, we invited them to join us in our walkathon library.
Since they told us that they will be having reading
assessment for enrollment, we let them read books and
ask them question so we can assure that they understood
what they had read.
II. Afternoon Session (1201H to1800H)
After a short lunch at Don Servillano Platoon Memorial
High School, we wait for the students who promised to
comeback. From six (6) students in the morning we now had
seven (7) because Kylie invited her friend Jess to participate
our program.
Since the teachers of DSPMHS admire what we are doing,
they ask us to stay in the rest of the afternoon in their
school to teach the students especially in reading skills
because for the incoming grade 7, reading assessment is a
very important matter when entering English Oriented
Curriculum.
We stayed at DSPMHS until 1700H to start our drive home
and for people to notice us and to attract more children for
the next day.
Evening (1900-2359)
At 1900H, we had our formal meeting together with the
newly arrived partner, the founder of the Sigaw ng Pugad
Lawin, Mr. Jubille Marlourd Lucena. We talked about how
to empower our project even better.
After two hours of meeting, we rearranged all the reading
and teaching materials for tomorrow. We sort out the
books that we need and those that are minimally used so
we can have better teaching strategy.
Then the rest of the night was spent in making and printing
some certificates for the journalist, partner organizations
and participants.
