Strengthening Adult Leadership in Myanmar
Myanmar Scout Association was inspired by the need to strengthen its adult leadership system as Scouting activities continued to rebuild and grow across Myanmar. Through the WOSM Messengers of Peace (MoP) Fund-supported “Scouts in Action: Back on Track” project, we aimed to update the Adults in Scouting framework, strengthen the capacity of Scout leaders, and establish a sustainable system for supporting and developing adults in Scouting.
Myanmar Scout Association conducted a three-day National Adults in Scouting (AIS) Workshop with 35 national and regional Scout leaders, commissioners and youth leaders. Through presentations, group discussions and consultations, participants reviewed the existing AIS framework, shared recommendations and adapted it to Myanmar’s context and World Scouting standards. The process resulted in the finalization of the National Adults in Scouting Policy.
We learned that involving national and regional Scout leaders directly in the policy development process creates stronger ownership and more practical outcomes. The workshop also showed the importance of adapting World Scouting standards to Myanmar’s local context. Collaboration, open discussion and shared experiences were essential in developing an AIS Policy that can effectively support Adult Leaders and strengthen Scouting in Myanmar.
