Springdale Primary turning pages together
The Scouting-in-Schools team at Springdale Primary aimed to bring learners together and introduce them to new literacy experiences. Mishka Longenstein explained that the project provided a fun, interactive way to spark interest in reading and learning. By combining guidance, storytelling, and practical literacy activities, learners were encouraged to explore creativity, imagination, and collaboration while gaining confidence in their abilities.
Learners engaged in writing and sharing their own stories, learning parts of speech, and exploring dictionaries. Yeboneers guided them through activities that encouraged participation and creativity. Despite challenges with seating and time management, children actively participated and responded enthusiastically, showing curiosity and engagement throughout the literacy adventure.
Mishka Longenstein observed that learners gained confidence and excitement for learning. The project demonstrated that literacy can be enjoyable and imaginative when structured creatively. It highlighted the importance of patience, adaptability, and encouragement, showing that even small guided interventions can foster enthusiasm, collaboration, and growth among learners.
