Raízes do Futuro

As Brazil faces the worst drought in years and knowing a family of farmers from our Scout group had their property devastated by a wildfire, our primary reason for this job was/is to help them recover the area by planting native species of trees. The rainwater capturing is something we learnt that was also affected and not only the atmosphere would get better but the quality of water tables and soil fertility too.
After a couple of visits to the place just to ensure it was appropriate to the age and abilities of all participants, on November 23 we split the whole group in small teams of work and passed onto them the tasks. Everybody had to attach strips of acrylic fabric to the stem of each plant and place them into boxes and take them to the planting area afterwards. Only Cub Scouts managed to carry one plant at hand per trip. Scouts and Explorers did 12 per box.
The young Scouts did learn about sustainable practices for their daily routines and they also learned that by planting trees it is possible to clean the air, conserve energy, save water, reduce soil erosion and provide habitat for the animals since it boots biodiversity.
