Fostering Growth in the Arab region
The project was inspired by the need to help Arab NSOs address membership challenges and strengthen their capacity to grow inclusively and sustainably. It responded to identified gaps in planning, retention, and diversity while creating opportunities to build leaders’ skills, connect Growth Commissioners, and launch a regional campaign aligned with WOSM priorities.
The project was executed by providing growth services to four NSOs, delivering an online regional workshop in November 2024 that trained 27 leaders from 15 NSOs, and engaging 14 Growth Commissioners through quarterly meetings and a panel at the World Scout Conference. A regional campaign was also launched, reaching about 1,000 directly and contributing to an overall impact of around 5,000 Scouts.
The project impact was the empowerment of Scout leaders and NSOs across the Arab Region to address membership growth and inclusion. It directly trained 500 Scouts, reached an additional 4,500 Scouts indirectly, and engaged 1,200 community members—benefiting around 5,000 people overall—while strengthening regional collaboration through the Growth Commissioners’ network and a regional campaign.
We learned that hybrid and online delivery increases participation across countries, and that engaging Growth Commissioners regularly is critical for sustaining momentum. Linking activities to regional events, such as the World Scout Conference, amplified reach and visibility, while tailored services to NSOs proved essential for addressing specific membership challenges.
