Scouting the Future: Innovate, Connect and Lead

There is a moment at every Digital Scouting Camp that I look for. It happens quietly, somewhere in the middle of a session, when a young person who arrived unsure of themselves suddenly sits up a little straighter and you can see it in their eyes, something has clicked. That moment happened many times over at the 4th Digital Scouting Camp 2026. From 26 to 28 June 2026, Mashonaland Scout Province hosted 14 young people at Ruwa Scout Park for three days of digital skills training, hands on innovation and youth leadership development, under the theme "Scouting the Future: Innovate, Connect, Lead." The idea is simple but powerful: Scouting is one of the most credible platforms for delivering digital skills to young Zimbabweans who might otherwise never access this kind of training. We are not just teaching technology. We are building the mindset and confidence that technology requires to be used for good. Participants worked through ten sessions, AI, drone piloting, robotics, cyber safety, digital storytelling, graphic design, digital marketing, smartphone photography, innovation for the SDGs and the Scout.org platform. Every session was hands on, youth centred, and designed not just to inform but to transform. We are already building the 5th edition, bigger numbers, more provinces, a girls' digital skills track and a post camp mentorship structure to sustain the learning long after the tents come down. Because the three days are just the spark. What matters is what happens after, in classrooms, in communities, in the choices young people make about who they want to become.
